Dallas Photo Workshops

Dallas Photo Workshops offers a variety of hands-on photographic workshops including Beginner Digital, Intermediate Digital, and Advanced Digital at The Cedars Union, an incubator for the arts, located in Dallas, Texas, adjacent to Old City Park. In addition to workshops DPW also offers one-on-one private tutorials for individuals and corporations.

Beginning Digital

This Saturday hands-on workshop covers the basics of exposure and auto focus and brings clarity to the multitude of buttons and settings to produce beautiful images while demystifiying the process.

The session includes live shooting demonstrations and time for questions. The afternoonn concludes with a live shoot with professional models, an edit session in Lightroom and a slide presentation of of your images from the model shoot.

This is a perfect starting place for beginners who have a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) or mirrorless camera and want to learn how to shoot with more confidence and creative control.

The instructor will be working with a camera tethered to a computer and projector, so you can see what they are shooting and follow along with camera settings. The classes are geared toward DSLR and mirrorless cameras like those made by Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Fuji, Leica and others.

Class size is limited to 6 participants allowing for time for interaction, problem solving and practicing techniques covered in class.

Intermediate Digital

This Saturday hands-on workshop goes deeper into important technical controls on your camera including exposure control, cleaning lenses and camera sensors. We also take an in-depth look into lens choices, composition and creative aspects of photography.

Through live shooting demonstrations and time for questions we’ll get further into the equipment and the creative choices. In the afternoon we’ll shoot professional models and end the day with a live editing session in LightRoom.

This is a perfect workshop if you’ve completed the Beginner Digital Series, or have the equivalent level of experience working with a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

Advanced Digital

This Saturday hands-on workshop focuses on a model shoot with advanced image processing in Light Room Classic, a deep dive into composition, the importance of seeing & incorporating light with composition, consideration of symbols and finding ones creative voice through a review of participants images.

If you ever wondered why you are taking pictures, how to cultivate a lens based art practice or how to energize your image making, this workshop is for you.

Special emphasis is given to placing ones work in an historical and contemporary context while identifying personal threads of interest for inspirations be they technical or aesthetic. The participant’s image review provides an opportunity to share ideas and learn from each other.

The instructor will be working with a computer and projector so you can follow along with the demonstrations. This class is geared toward DSLR and Mirrorless cameras like those made by Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Fuji, Leica and others.

Light Room Classic - Image Adjustment Intensive

This three-hour hands-on workshop covers the basics of post-production image adjustments using Light Room Classic.

The session includes the use of global adjustments including white balance, exposure using the histogram, highlight and shadow recovery, sharpening, tone curve for exposure & color correction/matching, color mixer, transforming geometry, and lens corrections

This is a perfect starting place for implementing a professional workflow. In addition to global changes, localized adjustments using AI mask creation with advanced mask manipulation will be demonstrated.

The instructor will be working with a computer and projector, so you can follow along with live demonstrations. The classes are geared toward photographers capturing in raw with DSLR and mirrorless cameras like those made by Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Fuji, Leica and others.
